P-The French Revolution (1789-1799) caused the decline of powerful monarchies and churches and prompted the rise of democracy and nationalism. The revolution was influenced by the enlightenment ideals of sovereignty and inalienable rights.
-Congress of Vienna convened in 1815 by the European powers that defeated Napoleon. They established a new balance of power in Europe that would prevent imperialism.
-Liberalism had been present in Europe since the 17th century. There were multiple kinds such as English liberalism and French Liberalism all of which were displaced by socialism by the turn of the 20th century.
-The American Revoution lasted between the years of 1765 and 1783. This revolution broke the American colonies from the British Empire, and on July 4, 1776 America declared independence from Europe.
E-Trade picked up immensely after 1750 due to new technological and economic advancement brought along by the Industrial Revolution.

S-During the late 18th century slavery became a major topic of debate between Europe, Africa and the Americas. The American and French Revolutions both emphasized equality and justice fueled these arguments and a strong abolitionist movement. Economic forces also lead to the end of slavery and the slave trade, investors discovered that wage labor was cheaper than slave labor on plantations because they did not have to provide food and shelter for the worker like they had to for slaves. Entrepreneurs started to see Africa as a place to get raw materials not slaves.
-The “bourgeoisie” or the middle class grew and had industrial jobs. They valued hard work and individual responsibility, and many of them believed that the lower class only had themselves to blame for their failure.
-Womens rights were particulary active in Europe and in America but didn’t take affect until years later after the revolution.
I-Steam power was replaced by gas.
- By the late 1850s a telegraph cable had been extended under the Atlantic ocean linking the British Isles, Canada, and the US.
-Scientists got more insight on how nature works and near the end of the era they started to develop chemical compounds in labs.
-Huge advancements in medicine like rabies and smallpox vaccines were discovered, along with the sterilization of surgical instruments, use of anesthetics during surgery, and the discovery of aspirin all occurred in this era.
-Charles Darwin came up with his huge contributions to the theory of evolution.
-Social Darwinism, where superior races naturally defeat inferior races, had enormous implications on the age of imperialism.
A-Authors started to make the topics of their book more appealing and engaging to the general public and scholars.
-Vincent Van Gough one of the most celebrated and famous artists in history was born during this era. Van Gough studied art n Belgium and started creating art during the last 20 years of his life. During the last years of his life he completed his finest works due to his technique that created unique surface tension and had very symbolic and intense color.
His most famous paintings include “Irises” (1889), “The Potato Eaters” (1885), and the most well known “Starry Night” (1889)
